Winnie McKinnon Pelz Lott

February 4, 1943 — September 14, 2019

Ms. Winnie McKinnon Pelz Lott, age 76 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga. following an extended illness. Ms. Lott was born February 4, l943 in Atkinson County, daughter of the late Odessa Hardin McKinnon and Lester McKinnon. Winnie was raised by her mother and taught the value of hard work and prayer. She married her first husband, Bernard Pelz, Jr. at a young age. They worked on the farm, raised chickens, and raised their family. Winnie returned to complete her High School Diploma in 1979. In later years, she graduated from East Central Technical College as a Certified Nursing Aide. Winnie worked many public jobs throughout the years. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide, Care Giver and retired from the Georgia Pacific Mill in Pearson at their closing. At the time of her death, she was serving as Queen of the Atco Red Hats Society. She was a member of Sweetwater United Methodist Church, and had also attended Ozias Church for many years. Winnie loved her Ozias Church Family as well as her Sweetwater Home Church Family. Winnie loved working in her yards and keeping a clean house. She enjoyed the hummingbirds and the butterflies her flowers attracted. She loved the Bluebirds and kept homes for them to return to each year. Winnie loved Fernandina Beach and enjoyed day trips and vacations there with her family going back to the 60’s. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouses, Bernard Pelz, Jr. and Carlis Lott, infant son, Frank Perry Pelz, and two brothers, John Roy McKinnon and Morris Hardin. Survivors include: Son: Frank Bernard Pelz III and wife Dana 3 Daughters: Sherry Kight and husband John                        Libby Pelz and fiancé Elden Gurley                        Kathy O’Neal and husband Jeff 1 Brother: Ralph Junior McKinnon and wife Ola 3 Sisters: Linda Cothern and husband Edward and special nephew, Brian Cothern                  Virginia Perry                  Dorothy Godsey 9 Grandchildren: Aaron Kight and wife Rachel, Gabe Pelz, Marshall Mizell and wife Megan, Tyler Mizell, Sydney Mizell, Kinnon Pelz, Arlaina Mizell, Shelby Grimes and husband Austin, and Rebecca Herrera and husband Daniel Portillo. 13 Great-Grandchildren: Ryana Moore, Emmett Lott, Caston Martinez, Dylan Mizell, Ella Kight, Lydia Kight, Sage Hosack, Landon Giddens, Ambrie Giddens, Yazlin Rodriguez, Zaiden Rodriguez, Zaniel Portillo, and Ereatus Grimes. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Some of the many special little people in her life: Sarah and and Harrison Hughes, Walker Altman, Addison Lewis, and Colt Carter. Memorial services for Ms. Lott were held, Monday, September 16, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. at Sweetwater United Methodist Church in Pearson, Ga. with Mr. D.Q. Pittman, Elder Steve Sirmans, and Rev. Aaron Kight officiating. Special musical selections were, “This is What Heaven Means to Me” and “Carry Me” rendered by soloist Bonnie Corbitt with taped accompaniment. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was Winnie’s favorite, Roger Whitaker, by CD. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Atco Red Hats Society. Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
