William Bennett

April 26, 1942 — September 19, 2020

Our loving Dad, Grandad and Great-Grandad entered Heaven’s gates on Saturday, September l9, 2020 to meet his Lord and Savior. He has been known as a lot of names in his lifetime, Dad, Pops, Big Papa, William, Pa, The Ice Man and, last but not least, Big Will.

Born in Branford, Fl., on April 26, l942, Mr. Bennett was the son of Cliff and Myrtice Bailey Bennett. He had made his home in Atkinson County for most of his life and worked in the logging industry as a truck driver for most of his life.  In his younger years he worked at the Ice House in Pearson and recently had worked for Atkinson County SWMA. He enjoyed working in his garden, spending time with his children, grandchildren and visiting with friends. He attended Indian Mound Baptist Church. He was preceded in death in death by his wife, Mary Bennett, daughter, Spring Renee Bennett, son, Clifford Bennett, Father and Mother, Cliff and Myrtice Bennett and granddaughter, Audreanna Bennett.

 

Survivors include:

2 Sons:  Buddy Bennett and wife Arlene of Pearson, Ga.

               Jeff Bennett of Pearson, Ga.

 

Grandchildren:  Morgan Carter and husband Barry, Nick Bennett and girlfriend Taylor Harris, Daisy Bennett, Lake Foster, Candra Murray and husband Ethan, and Lydia Metts and husband Stewart.

 

Great-Grandchildren who loved Big Pa dearly: Kaden, Channing, Bella, Audree, Trinity, Tanner, William, and Lynleigh.

 

Brother:  Jack Bennett of Pearson, Ga.

 

4 Sisters:  Elizabeth Taft and husband Fred of Axson, Ga.

                 Virginia Horton and husband Olen of Willacoochee, Ga.

                 Marie Stevenson of Homerville, Ga.

                 Morning Smith of Douglas, Ga.

 

Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Bennett were held, Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 4:00 P.M. at Relihan Funeral Home with Rev. Sim Youngblood and Rev. J.A. Anderson officiating. Special music included “Go Rest High on That Mountain”, “Just One Rose Will Do”, and “Lead Me Home” presented by cd.  The interment followed in Sunnyside Cemetery.

Serving as active pallbearers were: Mitchell Hall, Joseph Taft, Donald Hall, Michael Horton, Tracy Horton and Noah Junior Bagley. Honorary pallbearers were, Kyle Lott, Joe Beverly, Steve Corbitt, Charles Williams, Lige Gillis, Jack Stone, Josh Benefield and James Douglas.

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
