Roger Summerlin

December 20, 1947 — December 4, 2019

Mr. Roger Summerlin, age 71, passed away, Wednesday, December 4, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at the home of his sister in Moultrie, Ga. following a short illness.

A native of Atkinson County, Mr. Summerlin was born December 20, l947, son of Joe Summerlin and Kizzie Lewis Summerlin. He had made his home in Tifton for most of his life where he worked as a maintenance technician with Shaw Industries. He enjoyed fishing and visiting with family and church friends. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J W Summerlin, sisters, Christine Bowen and Emma Kiefer and 2 infant sisters Ollie Mae and Ruby Summerlin.

Survivors include:

3 Brothers: Tommy V. Summerlin and wife, Nellie of Mason, Tenn.

                   Jimmy Summerlin and wife, Debra of Mason, Tenn.

                   Hardy Summerlin and wife, Laverne of Pearson, Ga.

Sister: Verlene Summerlin and wife, Michele of Moultrie, Ga.        

Very Special Friends: Pamela Tyson of Moultrie, Ga.

                                     Anne Shupe of Salisbury, N.C.

2 Granddaughters: Amanda Wheeler and husband, Melvin

                               Claudia Tyson

2 Great-Granddaughters: Miley Wheeler

                                         Mackenzie Murphy

Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral Services for Mr. Summerlin were held Friday, December 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Arabia Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Robert Skinner Rev. Daniel Dean officiating. Special music included “Amazing Grace” and “Joy of Assurance” rendered by the Primitive Baptist Church singers and “If You Only Knew” was rendered by Laverne Summerlin with taped accompaniment. The interment followed in Arabia Church Cemetery.

Serving as active pallbearers were: Jake Dyal, Blake Dyal, Matthew Batchelor, Cary Batchelor,

Michele Murphy-Summerlin, Lewis Dean and Jimmy Boaen.

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
