Leroy Jean Broussard

March 6, 1932 — February 11, 2019

Mr. Leroy J. Broussard, age 86, of Pearson, Ga., passed away, Monday, February 11, 2019 at his home in Pearson, Ga. following a short illness.

 

A native of New Iberia, La., Mr. Broussard was born March 6, l932, son Amar and Noamie Dubois Broussard. He had made his home in Pearson since l990. He served 13 years in the US Air Force and then transferred to the Army National Guard from which he retired as a Sergeant First Class. He then went to work with the La. State Police and retired from there as a Trooper First Class. He was veteran of the Korean Conflict and also served in Vietnam in the early sixties. After moving to Atkinson County, he and some others started the annual Pig Jig at his home where people from all over came to enjoy Blue Grass music and BBQ. He loved Blue Grass music, fishing and working with his hands. He was a master carpenter, having built many homes over the years. He was a member of American Legion Post 173 in Pearson, Ga. and a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include: 

2 Daughters: Ella Stuart and husband Larry of Stonewall, La.

                     Jeanne Broussard and spouse Lizz Roberts of Bellingham,Wa.

 

Brother: George Broussard of New Iberia, La.

 

Sister: Doris Haydel of Reserve, La.

 

Sister-In-Law: Syble Mitchell of Pearson, Ga.

 

2 Grandchildren: Amanda Morgan and Ashley Morgan

3 Great-Grandchildren: Rylei Hoover, Axel Hoover, and Maxton Hoover.

Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Broussard were held Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Bennett and Rev. Buddy Mitchell officiating. Special musical selections were “Cabin on a Hill” and “In His Arms I’m Not Afraid” rendered by The Sweetwater Creek Singers. Prelude and Postlude music was by Becky Mitchell, pianist and Buddy Mitchell on the guitar. The interment followed in the Antioch Church Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by a U S Air Force Honor Guard contingent from Moody Air Force Base.

 

Serving as active pallbearers were: Herman Lewis, Randy Tucker, Chris Bennett, Hardy Summerlin, Sid Barrilleaux and Rody Barrilleaux.

Honorary pallbearer was Will Bourgois.

 

Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
