Mr. Larry S. Russ, age 76 years old, of Willacoochee, Ga., passed away, Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Ga. following a short illness. Born September 28, l946 in Douglas, Ga., Mr. Russ was the son of Solomon Matthew and Elizabeth Harper Russ. He was a lifelong resident of Atkinson County and was retired from Delco Remy and farming. He was a l965 Graduate of Atkinson County High School and veteran of the U. S. Army National Guard. He was passionate about fishing, enjoyed growing a garden, but most of all he loved his grandchildren. He was a member of Willacoochee Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Isabelle Russ. Survivors include: Wife: Velma Chaney Russ of Willacoochee, Ga. Son: Matthew Russ and wife Erin of Willacoochee, Ga. Daughter: Lori Russ Howard and husband Lawrence of Willacoochee, Ga. Twin Brother: Harry Russ and wife Judy of Pearson, Ga. 2 Sisters: Gail Vickers of Willacoochee, Ga. Joan Walker and husband Bruce of Waycross, Ga. 2 Grandchildren: Dylan Howard and James Russ Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Russ were held on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Hebron Cemetery with Rev. Larry Stone and Mr. Matthew Russ officiating. Special music included “You Are My Sunshine” and “Blessed Assurance” rendered by the congregation with Jennifer Russ Davis leading. The interment followed in Hebron Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Lee Lewis, Charlie Russ, Jeremy Russ, Curt Russ, John Rowe, and Jeremy Tarver. Serving as honorary pallbearers: Neil Dillingham, Reid Dillingham, Charlie Bray, Henry Moore, Jerry Newsome, Zach Luckie, Bill McCranie, and Men of Willacoochee Christian Church. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
