John Andrew Kunberger

November 12, 1930 — January 20, 2020

Mr. John A. Kunberger, age 89 of Willacoochee, Ga., passed away, Monday, January 20, 2020 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga., following an extended illness.

 

A native of Winter Haven, Fl., Mr. Kunberger was born November 12, l930, son of Gottlieb Frederick and Ellen Money Kunberger. He had been a resident of Willacoochee for the past 27 years. He was a retired store manager for Porter Paint and a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, picking produce to give to others and was a University of Florida Gator Football fan. He was a devoted Christian, member and Deacon of First Baptist Church in Willacoochee and served as Deacon at his church in Ocala, before relocating to Willacoochee.

 

Survivors include:

Wife: Bonnie Kunberger of Willacoochee, Ga.

 

2 Sons: Derick Kunberger of Willacoochee, Ga.

             Drew Kunberger and wife, Kimberly of Dunnellon, Fla.

 

4 Grandchildren, 3 Great-Grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Kunberger were held, Friday, January 24, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Willacoochee, Ga. with Rev. Joseph Lee officiating. Special musical selections included, “Amazing Grace”, and “Victory in Jesus” rendered by the attending congregation and “I’ve Been with Jesus” presented by the Church Choir with Bonnie Kunberger accompanying at the piano. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was by Nelda Flanders, pianist.  The interment with closing prayer by Rev. Billy Huffstuttler and Military Honors followed in Willacoochee City Cemetery.

 

Serving as active pallbearers were, Derick Kunberger, Drew Kunberger, Allen Mizell, John Lindsey, Joe Taft, and Phillip Knowles.

 

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
