Mr. James Olen Horton

Willacoochee

Mr. James Olen Horton, age 78 years old of Willacoochee, Ga., passed away, Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Memorial Health in Savannah, Ga.  He was born in Mora, Ga., son of Willis Jr. and Mavadell Carmichael Horton.  Mr. Horton made his home in Willacoochee, where he, alongside his wife, took great pride in raising and providing for their family.  He worked as a truck driver for Harvey's Supermarket, and in the logging business.  In his spare time, he enjoyed, carpentry work, gardening and working in his yard.  Mr. Horton, the "pro fisherman", could often be found fishing and hunting, he loved eating fish, and especially taking his grandchildren fishing.  If you knew him, you knew that he would help anyone he could.  Mr. Horton attended Willacoochee First Baptist Church and was preceded in death, along with his parents, by his son, Terry Horton, and sister, Patricia Lynn Horton Head.

Survivors include:

Wife:  Virginia Bennett Horton of Willacoochee, Ga.

2 Sons:  Michael Horton and wife, Julie of Pearson, Ga.

              Tracey Horton and wife, Pamela Hope of Nashville, Ga.

Daughter:  Regina Webb and husband, John of Nashville, Ga.

4 Brothers:  Jesse W. Horton of Ray City, Ga.

                   Billy Horton and wife, Barbara of Adel, Ga.

                   Darrell Horton and wife, Retha "Dean" of Willacoochee, Ga.

                   Jerry Horton and wife, Debbie of St. Augustine, Fla.

2 Sister:  Christell Williams of Willacoochee, Ga.

               Christine Luke and husband, Curtis of Willacoochee, Ga.

8 Grandchildren:  Haley and husband Josh, Walt, Alainnah, Riley, Alex, Alyssa, Caden, & Clayton

5 Great-Grandchildren:  Landon, Hannah, Liam, Paisley, & Dawson

Several nieces, nephews, along with several other relatives also survive.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Horton, were held, Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Willacoochee City Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joe Taft officiating.  Special musical selections included, "Go Rest High" and "There's a Record Book", rendered by cd.

Serving as active pallbearers were:  Donald Hall, Allen Horton, Jeff Bennett, Kevin Horton, Josh Horton, and Josh Brogdon.

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
