James Lewis Freeman

October 30, 1943 — April 21, 2020

Mr. James Lewis “Jimmy” Freeman, age 76 of Ray City, Ga. passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at the home of his daughter following an extended illness.

 

Born October 30, l943 in Green Cove Springs, Fl., Mr. Freeman was the son of the late Arthur L. and Della Roberts Freeman. He grew up in Pearson, Ga., attending the local schools and was a graduate of Atkinson County High School, where he excelled in the sport of basketball. He attended South Georgia College in Douglas where he played on the basketball team. He later joined the U. S. Air Force where he spent the next 27 years, retiring in l99l as a Senior Master Sergeant. His hobbies included Ham Radio Operator “Redman”, coin collecting and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.

 

Survivors include:

Wife:  Linda Prine Freeman of Ray City, Ga.

 

2 Daughters:   Amy Lynn Ferris and husband Chris of Douglas, Ga.

                       Vicki Lee Roberts and husband Terry of Ray City, Ga.

 

6 Grandchildren: Jarret and Cody Ferris, Jaimee Ferris Carter and husband Tyler

                         T.J. Roberts

                         Brittany Culliver and husband Eric

                         Dustee Arnold and husband Joshua

                           

Great Granddaughter: Ella Leigh Carter

 

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Freeman were held Saturday, April 25, 2020 at 3:00 P. M. at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Gardner officiating and Rev. Charles Brown offering the opening and closing prayer. Special musical selections included “City of Refuge” and “How Great Thou Art” rendered by Dustee and Joshua Arnold with Joshua accompanying on the guitar. The interment followed in Sweetwater Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by a U. S. Air Force Honor Guard contingent from Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Ga.

 

Serving as active pallbearers were: Chris Ferris, Terry Roberts, Jarrett Ferris, Cody Ferris, Joshua Arnold and Tyler Carter.
