Jack D. Tanner

February 22, 1927 — October 5, 2021

Mr. Jack Dempsey Tanner, age 94, of Douglas, Ga. passed away peacefully into glory on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at his home with his family by his side.

Mr. Tanner was born February 22, 1927, in Atkinson County to the late, Jack W. Tanner and Lessie Cook Tanner. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. After meeting and marrying Marie Caporella, they made their home in PA. After his time in the military, he went to college on the GI Bill, graduating with a degree in accounting. He began his career at Bennett Trailer Corporations. After 39 successful years as their manager/owner, he retired. He also served as a Deacon at Manoah Baptist Church for many years.

After retirement, he moved back to Georgia where he met and married Pearl Morris Tanner. They enjoyed many years camping with their club and visiting their families in Pennsylvania and Georgia. Mr. Tanner was a member of Rocky Pond Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tanner was preceded in death by two sisters, Montez Hendley (Albany, Ga) and Doris Metts (Albany, Ga) and a grandson, Tyler MacCrory (Springfield, PA)

He is survived by a loving wife; Pearl Morris Tanner, three daughters; Saundra Brady (Edward) of Springfield, PA, Lynn Cain of Brookhaven, Pa., and Tammy Chesser (Steve) of Springfield, PA. Two daughters by marriage, Betty Lott of Douglas, Ga., and Cheryl Jackson (Doc) of Pearson, Ga., brother; David Tanner (Patricia) of Pearson, Ga.. 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Tanner were held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Rocky Pond Baptist Church in Douglas, Ga. with Rev. Walt Deloach and Rev. Lonnie Spikes officiating. Special musical selections included, “Hallelujah” rendered by soloist, Natalie Mizell,” How Great Thou Art” by pianist, Nelda Flanders and “Amazing Grace” rendered by those in the congregation. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was provided by pianist, Nelda Flanders. The interment followed in Antioch Cemetery.

Serving as active pallbearers were:  Billy Griffith, Morgan Lott, Payton Guess, Patrick MacCrory, Christopher MacCrory and Bobby Cain.  Honorary pallbearers included, Michael and Matthew Tanner.

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
