Henry Edward "Hinky" Mathews

Mr. Henry Edward “Hinky” Mathews, age 83, of Pearson, Ga. passed away Friday, April 17, 2020 at his residence after a short illness.

Born August 1, l936 in Elizabeth Town, N. C., Mr. Mathews was the son of the late E. O. “Shag” and Reba Mae Outlaw Mathews. He had made his home in Pearson for most of his life. He owned and operated Mathews Service Station for many years, after taking over for his father, Shag Mathews. He also operated a Western Auto Store along with the service station and a small engine repair service. After retiring, he operated a small engine repair service at his home. For many years in Pearson, he along with Walter Batten were the volunteer fire department in Pearson, Ga.. Hinky’s hobbies were working and helping others in need. He never turned down a person who needed help. Hinky was an active member and Deacon of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Millwood, Ga. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Mathews Browning.

Survivors include:

Wife: Shirley Mathews of Pearson, Ga.

 

Son: Edward Mathews and wife Cindy of Pearson, Ga.

 

2 Daughters: Pam Castellaw and husband Todd of Manor, Ga.

                        Nina Rowe and husband John of Pearson, Ga.

 

Sister: Linda Dunn and husband Dennis of Stockbridge, Ga.

 

5 Grandchildren: Ariel Parker and husband Nick, Kaiti Crawford and husband Andy, Michaela Rowe, Jacob Rowe, and Jordan Mathews

 

Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

 

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Mathews were held at 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Sweetwater Cemetery in Pearson, Ga. with Rev. Keith Lloyd officiating and Edward Mathews giving the Eulogy. Special music “Wish You Were Here” and “Look For Me at Jesus Feet” was rendered by Andy Crawford with CD accompaniment. The interment followed in Sweetwater Cemetery.

 

Serving as active pallbearers were: Jacob Rowe, Nathan Escobar, Nick Parker, Barry Peach,

Andy Crawford and Sammy Steve Ganas.

 

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
