Glenda Futch Yawn

April 20, 1940 — March 13, 2023

Mrs. Glenda Futch Yawn, age 82 years old, of Willacoochee, Ga. passed away Monday, March 13, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Ga. She was born, April 20, 1940, in Nashville, Ga., daughter of Clarence and Effie Akins Futch.  Mrs. Glenda made her home in Willacoochee, where she took great pride in raising her family and helping those in her community.  She worked for many years as Site Director for the City of Willacoochee Senior Citizens Center and volunteered to help Senior Citizens in surrounding counties.  Mrs. Glenda was an active member of Willacoochee First Baptist Church and was an example to all those whom she came in contact with.   The story has been told that early in their marriage, while she and her husband were stationed in Saudi Arabia, Mrs. Glenda used her baby boy’s diapers to “smuggle” in Bibles to give to the people there!  Mrs. Glenda carried that faith with her, and it only got stronger throughout her life.  Along with her service in the community, the Church and Senior Citizens, she loved to babysit and spend time with her family, especially her grandbabies.  Mrs. Glenda was preceded in death, along with her parents, by her husband, Billy Yawn, Sr., her daughter, Diane Scarborough, one sister, Dorothy Lott, and 6 brothers: Clarence Futch, Jr., Clyde Futch, Luther Futch, Ruben Futch, Frank Drake, and Lace Futch.

Survivors include:

Son: Billy Yawn, Jr. of Willacoochee, Ga.

Brother:  Ray Futch of Smithdale, Ms.

5 Grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Yawn were held Thursday, March 16, at 2:00 p.m. at the Willacoochee First Baptist Church in Willacoochee, Ga. with Rev. Joe Taft and Rev. Bill Huffstuttler officiating. Special musical selections included, “Victory in Jesus” and “Amazing Grace”, rendered by cd.  The interment followed in the Willacoochee City Cemetery.

Serving as active pallbearers were:  Daniel Clement, Stan Clement, Bryce Clement, Cobi Rodriguez, Ryan Cribb, and Eli Meeks.

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
