Mrs. Courson was born on August 15, 1951, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Robert Roy Schultze and Naomi Belch Schultze. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Joseph Larry Courson, Sr. Her unique wit, style, and larger than life personality will be greatly missed and often remembered by the countless people she touched over her all too short lifetime.
“Miss Paulette,” as she was affectionately known far and wide, led a colorful and impressive life in Atkinson County over the years. Her most recent job for several years as a Customer Service Manager at Walmart in Douglas gave her great joy and a chance to “see people” every day. Miss Paulette was a “people person” at her core. She had previously worked for the Atkinson County Citizen, Georgia Pacific, and in the county school system. She also worked with the family business, Courson Diesel Service, for a number of years. Her hobbies and interests were vast, including genealogy, history, music, and reading. Throughout the time her sons were in school, Miss Paulette was a fixture at any and all school functions, sports events, fundraisers, and community events. She also assisted with the youth programs at First Baptist Church in Pearson for many years. Miss Paulette’s immeasurable contributions to the community over the years will never be forgotten.
