E.L. Meeks

Mr. Elisha Leslie “E.L.” Meeks, age 79, passed away Friday, September 08, 2023, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga. following an extended illness.

Mr. Meeks was born October l9, l943 in Douglas, Ga. to the late William Orville Meeks and Pauline Underwood Gillis. He had made his home in Atkinson County for most of his life and was a retired farmer. After retiring, he enjoyed fishing, selling produce, watching sports, spending time with his family and going to auctions. He attended Ozias Freewill Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 Great Granddaughters, Aleigh Elizabeth Meeks and Presley Diane Meeks, 3 Brothers, James Gillis, Harvey Lee Gillis, and Beecher “Pert” Gillis and 2 Sisters, Taunce Smith and Joyce Moore.

Survivors include:
Wife:  Barbara Diane “Bobbie” Meeks of Axson, Ga. 

Daughter:  Denise Pittman and husband Darrell of Axson, Ga. 

3 Sons:  Everette Meeks and wife Alana of Millwood, Ga. 
      Stacey Meeks and wife Tammie of Axson, Ga. 
      Landon Meeks and wife Holly of Axson, Ga. 

Brother:  Ray Gillis and wife Peggy of Dacula, Ga. 

14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Meeks were held on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Ozias Freewill Baptist Church in Pearson, Ga. with Rev. Larry Johnson, Rev. William Pope, and Rev. Edward Mathews officiating. Special musical selections were, “I Can Only Imagine”, “Goodness of God” and “Scars in Heaven” rendered by soloist and pianist, John Lang.  Music for Prelude and Postlude by John Lang, pianist.  The interment followed in Utah Cemetery with “Save a Place for Me”, and “Go Rest High on that Mountain” rendered by cd at the graveside.

Serving as active pallbearers were, Grandsons:  James Pittman, Aiden Meeks, Jovi Meeks, Keegan Meeks, Lawton Nugent, Logan Meeks, Hunter Meeks, Drew Meeks, Eli Meeks, and Justin Meeks.

Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
