Donald Eugene Vickers

Mr. Donald Eugene Vickers, age 72 of Willacoochee, Ga. passed away, Monday, January 3, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.  He was born, August 8, 1949, in Japan, son of Grady and Bertha White Vickers.  Mr. Vickers made his home in Willacoochee where he raised his family, alongside his wife, Doris.  He worked in the logging industry and went on to own and operate, with his sons, Vickers, and Sons Logging.  Mr. Vickers was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where he served as Deacon.  He enjoyed being outside, whether that was logging, gardening, working on old tractors and especially spending time with his family.  Mr. Vickers was preceded in death, along with his parents, by his brother, Ronnie Vickers, one sister, Norma Kay Dockery and his in-laws, Johnny and Inez Crosby.

Survivors include:  

Spouse of 52 years:  Doris Edwina Crosby Vickers of Willacoochee, Ga.

3 Sons:  Rodney Vickers of Willacoochee, Ga.

             Kevin Vickers and wife, Gina of Willacoochee, Ga.

             Jamie Vickers and wife, Melissa of Willacoochee, Ga.

Daughter:  Carrie Adams and husband, Trampas of Willacoochee, Ga.

Brother:  Kenneth "JoJo" Vickers of Tifton, Ga.

2 Sisters:  Beverly Vickers Duncan of Jacksonville, Fl.

                Judy Paulk and husband, George of Douglas, Ga.

Sister and Brother-in-law:  Earlene Roland and husband, Michael of Greenville, Fl.

Sister-in-law:  Jenny Vickers of Douglas, Ga.

Brother-in-law:  J.W. Dockery of Broxton, Ga.

9 Grandchildren:  Phaedra Merritt and husband, Logan, Kendra Vickers, Kate Densmore and husband, Ben, Ely Adams, Sara Vickers, Darcy Adams, Isabella Vickers, Dawson Vickers, and Jamilee Vickers

2 Great-Grandsons:  Mason and Clayton Merritt

Special Nephew:  Chris Vickers and wife, Paula of Douglas, Ga.

Several other nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Vickers were held, Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Wilson and Rev. Casey Wright officiating. Special music included “Daddy’s Hand” rendered by soloist Carrie Adams, with cd accompaniment, “Farther Along” rendered by soloist Derrick Soles, with Teresa Lynn Wilson accompanying at the piano and “Amazing Grace” rendered by those in the attending congregation. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was rendered by pianist, Teresa Lynn Wilson.  The interment followed in Purvis Cemetery with special song, “Precious Memories” presented by his grandchildren.

Serving as active pallbearers were:  Darrell Busby, Justin Spivey, Duane Massey, Mike Vining, Clark Holton, and Ronnie Hardee.

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
