Daniel Richard Vickers

Mr. Daniel Richard Vickers, age 70 of Pearson, Ga. passed away, Thursday, November 18, 2021, at his home following an extended illness.  He was born in Atkinson County, Ga. on December 12, 1950, to Thomas and Annie Bell Douglas Vickers.  Mr. Vickers made his home in Pearson, where he raised his family and was a staple in the community, serving on the City Council and as Mayor of Pearson. He worked at Waddell’s Furniture Store in Pearson, as well as, the Ware State Prison in Waycross, Ga., as a Correctional Officer until retirement.  Mr. Vickers was a strong man of faith.  He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pearson, Ga., where he served in many leadership positions, including Bishop.  Mr. Vickers loved history and being outdoors and was known to be a great storyteller.  Whether it was just a walk in the woods or a camping trip, you could be assured that those moments would eventually become one of many great stories, told by him.  Mr. Vickers was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Jack, Jimmy, and John Vickers, and a sister; Mary Francis Parker. 

Survivors include:

Wife:  Linda Gail Vickers of Pearson, Ga.

3 Sons:  Elisha Daniel "Ed" Vickers and wife, Shona of Bremerton, Washington

              William Gerald Vickers of Douglas, Ga.

              Porter Rockwell Vickers of Pearson, Ga.

 

3 Brothers:  Henry Vickers and wife, Rose of Pearson, Ga.

                    Larry Vickers and wife, Jackie of Waresboro, Ga.

                    David Vickers and wife, Sandra of Lake City, Fla.

 

Sister:  Cora Fae Boatright of Douglas, Ga.

6 Grandchildren, 4 Great-Grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Vickers were held, Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pearson, Ga. with Bishop Clee Sirmans and Elder Steve Sirmans officiating.  Opening prayer was given by Bro. Preston Hardee with closing prayer being given by Bro. Lester Cribbs.  Special musical selections included, “Amazing Grace” instrumental, rendered by pianist, Ellen Hardee, and “I Stand All Amazed” rendered by those in the congregation with Ellen Hardee accompanying at the piano.  Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was provided by, pianist, Ellen Hardee.  The interment followed in Little Utah Cemetery in Axson, Ga. with dedication of the grave given by Bishop Clee Sirmans.

Serving as active pallbearers were:  Levi Vickers, Elisha Vickers, David White, Preston Hardee, Tim Cecil and Michael Davis.

Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
