Walter Virgil Myers

Mr. Walter Virgil Myers age 97, of Willacoochee, Ga.,a resident of Shady Acres for the past 5 years passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Shady Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center in Douglas, Ga. following a short illness. A native of Berrien County, Mr. Myers was born August 20, l9l2 son of John and Lulu Alexander Myers. He moved to Winter Haven in l941 where he worked in the Citrus Industry for many years before moving back to Willacoochee in l965. He was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church. His first wife, Maude Jowers Myers, his second wife Essie Mae McDonald Myers, a grandson, John Robertson and a special friend, Lillian Miller, preceded him in death. Survivors include: 2 Daughters: Bonnie Kunberger and husband John of Willacoochee, Ga. Shirley Robertson of Willacoochee, Ga. 1 Brother: Marvin Myers of Valdosta, Ga. 1 Sister: Esther Myers Guest of Marietta, Ga. 5 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Myers were held at 2:00 P M. Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Beulah United Methodist Church with Rev. Eddie Morrison and Rev. Bill Huffstuttler officiating. Special musical selections included "Lord Listen To Your Children Praying" and "Blessed Assurance" rendered by members of The Willacoochee Senior Citizens Center with Bonnie Kunberger accompanying at the piano and "Amazing Grace" rendered by the attending congregation with Beth Paulk accompanying at the piano. Beth Paulk pianist provided soft music for the Prelude and the Postlude. The interment followed in the Willacoochee City Cemetery. Serving as active bearers were: Wayne Cribb, Jack Tucker, Emory Tucker, Mark Tucker, Jimmy Grantham and Edward Jowers. Honorary pallbearers were: Mike Tucker, Peggy Scury, Barbara Miller, Dan and Sherrill Miller, Edwin and Winnette Youngblood, and members of The Willacoochee Senior Citizens Center. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
