Mrs. Wylene Sumner Mitchell age 86 of Douglas, Ga. passed away Friday May 21, 20l0 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Ga. following a short illness. A native of Pearson, Ga. Mrs. Mitchell had made her home in Douglas, Ga. for the past 24 years. She had also lived in Dalton, Ga. for many years. She was a retired teacher having taught for 36 years in the schools of Dalton, Ga. and Pearson, Ga.. Her parents were the late Wiley and Olive Deen Sumner. She was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Sue Sumner, Ellen Sumner and Dorothy Coffey. After receiving a diploma from South Georgia College in Douglas, Ga., she obtained a BS degree in Education, a Master of Education and an Education Specialist from the University of Georgia. She was a Georgia Sustaining Member of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teachers Society, member of Georgia Retired Educators and member of National Society Daughters of American Revolution Her church membership was at First United Methodist Church in Douglas, Ga. where she also was a member of the Susannah Wesley Sunday School Class and was active in United Methodist Women. Survivors include: 1 Son: Douglas W. Mitchell III of Douglas, Ga. 1 Granddaughter: Laura Jones and husband Robert of New Bern, N. C. 2 Great Granddaughters: Ashley Jones and Georgia Jones 1 Brother: Robert Sumner and wife Betty of Pearson, Ga. 2 Nieces: Robyn Cuneo of Blackshear, Ga. Lucinda Johnson of Alpharetta, Ga. 1 Nephew: Keith Coffey of Chatsworth, Ga. Funeral services for Mrs. Mitchell were held at 2:00 P. M. Thursday May 27, 20l0 at Pearson United Methodist Church with Rev. Craig Hutto officiating. Special music included "O God Our Help in Ages Past", "God of our Fathers", and "How Great Thou Art" rendered by the attending congregation with Phil Liles accompanying at the piano. Soft Prelude and Postlude music played by Phil Liles pianist. The interment followed in Union Hill Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Clyatt James, Jr., Keith Coffey, James Corbitt, Ronald Deen, Robert Jones and Ken Hendry. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Douglas, Ga., Pearson United Methodist Church or to Epworth By The Sea, P. O. Box 20407, St. Simons, Ga. 3l522 Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
