Lawrence Smith

Mr. Lawrence Smith age 74 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Crawford, Alabama, Mr. Smith was born April 22, 1936, son of Mary Love Tice Smith and the late Jasper R. Smith. He retired after 30 years as a foreman for Georgia Power Co. Some years ago Mr. Smith was awarded a Good Citizen Award from the City of Pearson for his willingness to help others and he never expected anything in return for his services. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the US Navy and a member of Crawford Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Brown Smith, father, Jasper R. Smith and brother, Jerald D. Smith. Survivors include: Mother: Mary Love Tice Smith of Smith Station, Al. Great Niece and Caregiver: Kelly Vickers Strickland of Pearson, Ga. 1 Brother: Donald Smith and wife Marie of Smith Station, Al. 1 Sister: Mary Joy Lim and husband Heng of Hummelstown, Penn. Numerous Nieces, Nephews and other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Smith were held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Brown and Rev. Sim Youngblood officiating. The eulogy was given by Steve Cady. Special musical selections included, "Gone Home" and "Stairway to Heaven" rendered by the Sweetwater Creek Singers. Music for the Prelude and the Postlude was rendered by Sweetwater Creek. The interment followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were, Jim Brown, Jason Brown, Steve Brown, Pat Brown, Mason Davis and James P. Gore, Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Charlie Mizell, Rob Bentley, John Douglas Griffin and Dallas Smith. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
