Jimmy Gene Brown

Mr. Jimmy Brown, age 64 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at his home following an extended illness. A native of Atkinson County, Ga., Mr. Brown was born August 12, 1946, son of C.P. and Gladys Stone Brown. He retired after 26 years as a Manager for Tri County Gas Company. He served in the the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict where he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and was a member of American Legion Post #173. Mr. Brown also served 3 terms on the Pearson City Council and was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother in law, Norma Jean and Lawrence Smith and an infant brother, Junior Brown. Survivors include: Wife: Elaine Bennett Brown of Pearson, Ga. 2 Sons: Jim Brown and Jason Brown of Pearson, Ga. 2 Grandsons: Jacob Brown and Dylan Brown of Pearson, Ga. 2 Brothers: Chester Brown and wife Sue of Pearson, Ga. Charles Brown and wife Janice of Pearson, Ga. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Brown were held at 11:00 A. M., Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Ozias Freewill Baptist Church in Pearson, Ga. with Rev. Larry Johnson and Rev. Rowan Sirmans officiating. Special musical selections included "Ain't No Grave Gonna Hold this Body Down" rendered by soloist, Audrey Ponsell with taped accompaniment. "Not Afraid" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord" were rendered by Michael Johnson soloist/pianist. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was provided by Michael Johnson, pianist. The interment followed in Ozias Cemetery with bagpiper, Mr. Dan Bray rendering a musical solo of Amazing Grace. Military Honors were rendered by a U.S. Army Honor Guard Contingent from Ft. Stewart, Ga. Serving as active pallbearers were: Steve Brown, Justin Brown, Andy Royals, Derek Royals, Jody Fussell and Terry Morris. Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Hinky Mathews, Dale Davis, Julian Haskins, Greg Brown, WM Smith, George Relihan and Jerry Davis. Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
