Wilson Paulk, Sr.

November 20, 1941 — November 11, 2013

On Monday, November 11, 2013 at the age of 71, Winnes Wilson Paulk, Sr. left this earth for his heavenly home. He was born on November 20, 1941 just a few yards from his place of death near Willacoochee, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winnes H. and Elizabeth Metts Paulk, his brother, Marshall Paulk and his sister, Gwendolyn Yearwood. Everyone in the community knew him as Mr. Wilson or Uncle Wilson, and he lived a full life in Atkinson County. From age 8 to l997, he worked diligently on the Paulk Dairy Farm. From l997 to 2000, Mr. Wilson could be found selling everything from screws to crickets at Sirmans Hardware Store in Pearson. For the past thirteen years, Mr. Wilson has been faithfully serving Atkinson County as Clerk of Superior Court. He was known to us all as a loyal man with a quick wit, an award-winning smile, a knack for cooking and genuine love for others. Mr. Wilson spent 49 1/2 happily married years to his sweetheart Doris Beth Deen Paulk. During their life together, they raised two children, Amanda Wildes and Winn Paulk, served faithfully at Beulah United Methodist Church and loved every aspect of life in Atkinson County. Mr. Wilson was blessed with a wonderful array of family, co-workers, and friends. In addition to his wife and two children, Mr. Wilson is survived by a son-in-law, Don Wildes, a daughter-in-law, Tracy Paulk, eight grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other special family members. On Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 2:00 P. M., a touching memorial service of Mr. Wilson's life was held at Beulah United Methodist Church in Willacoochee, Ga. with Rev. Eddie Morrison officiating. At Mr. Wilson's request, his granddaughter, Mackenzie Sirmans sang "Sweet Beulah Land", his niece, Trisha Yearwood, sang "Move That Mountain", and song leader Margaret Grantham led the entire congregation in singing "When We All Get to Heaven". Soft music for the Prelude and the Postlude was provided by pianist Tammy Paulk. The interment followed at Satilla Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were: Levi Sirmans, Seth Paulk, Zach Paulk, Josh Wildes, Jim Paulk and Cray Grantham. Honorary pallbearers included men of the Sunday morning Brotherhood Prayer Breakfast and Beulah United Methodist Church. In honor of Mr. Wilson and to carry on his giving spirit, the family requests that donations be made to Tiftarea Hospice, or any charity or mission fund of your choice.
