Micajah (Mac) McClendon

Mr. Micajah "Mac" McClendon, age 73, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Pearson, Ga., passed away, Saturday, July 26, 2014 at The ACOSTA Community Hospice Center in Jacksonville, Fla., following an extended illness. A native of Douglas, Ga., Mr. McClendon was born, December 9, 1940, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse and Myrtice Batten McClendon. He was a retired bus driver for the JTA in Jacksonville, Fla. Mr. McClendon was a member of Ozias Freewill Baptist Church in Pearson, Ga. He and his late wife, Joyce, enjoyed singing and were members of the singing group, Freewill Ambassadors. Mr. McClendon was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce McClendon and a step-son, Stewart Bergquist. Survivors include: 1 Daughter: Connie Cox and husband Gerald of Jacksonville, Fla. 1 Son: Donald McClendon of Jacksonville,Fla. 2 Step Sons: Jerome Bergquest and wife Sandi of Brooksville, Fla. Rev. James Bergquest and wife Sharon of Hardy, Va. 3 Grandchildren: Christopher Joiner of Douglas, Ga. Stephanie Brey and husband Royce of Jacksonville, Fla. Thomas Glass of Jacksonville, Ga. Five Great-Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Mr. McClendon was held Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Ozias Freewill Baptist Church in Pearson, Ga. with Rev. Mitchell Deems and Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Special musical selections included, "Just One Rose Will Do", "Sun's Coming Up in the Morning" and "Beulah Land" rendered by c.d. accompaniment. Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was provided by Lilla Deems, pianist. The interment followed in Sunnyside Church Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were: Harvey Hamilton, Gene Davis, Miles Corbitt, Greg Soles, Bob Andrews and Richard Tindall.
