Pamela (Pam) James Witherspoon

Mrs. Pamela (Pam) James Witherspoon, age 54, of Axson, Ga. passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015 at her home in Axson, Ga. surrounded by her loving family following a courageous 11 year battle with ovarian cancer. Born March 31, l96l in Douglas, Ga. Pam was the daughter of Woodrow and Gertrude Presley James. She had made her home in Gainesville, Ga. prior to moving back to Axson. She taught school in Dahlonega, Ga., Ft. Worth, Tx. and Hampton, Ga. before starting at Pearson Elementary where she was named System Wide Teacher of the Year in 2012-2013. She retired from teaching last year due to health problems after 20 years with the last 7 and half years at Pearson Elementary. She was a member of Union Hill Congregational Christian Church and was preceded in death by her father Woodrow James and a brother Lynard Wayne James. Survivors include: Husband: Mike Witherspoon of Axson, Ga. 2 Sons: Joel Witherspoon and Seth Witherspoon of Axson, Ga. Mother: Gertrude James of Axson, Ga. 2 Brothers: Boyd James and wife Peggy of Axson, Ga. Jerry James and wife Linda of Moultrie, Ga. 1 Sister: Paula McMullan and husband Mike of Forsyth, Ga. 1 Sister-in-law: Elaine James of Jacksonville, Fl. Several Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Witherspoon were held Monday, June 29, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Union Hill Church in Axson, GA. with Rev. Mike Gibbs and Rev. Gene Hughes officiating. The Eulogy was given by her husband Mike Witherspoon. Special musical selections included "Great is Thy Faithfulness" and "Agnus Dei" rendered by the attending congregation with Joel Witherspoon leading (guitar) and Tonya Usher accompanying at the piano. "Trading my Sorrows" was rendered by Joel Witherspoon soloist with guitar accompaniment. Soft music for the Prelude and the Postlude was by Tonya Usher pianist. The interment followed in Union Hill Church Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were nephews: Kevin James, Ken James, Thomas James,Tommy James, Benjamin McMullan, and Mark McMullan.
