James A. "Jack" Keaton

Mr. James A. “Jack” Keaton, age 81 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Sunday, March 05, 2017 at the Manor House in Douglas, Ga. following an extended illness.   A native of Lenox, Ga., Mr. Keaton was born May 7, l935, son of C. C. and Mary Hodges Keaton. He had made his home in Pearson for most of his life and was a U. S. Army Veteran. He retired from the Georgia Forestry Commission after many years of service as a Forest Ranger. He later opened and operated a nursery. His church membership was at the Goodwill Assembly of God Church in Pearson, Ga. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra “Kelly” Keaton.   Survivors include: 3 Sons: Lance Keaton and wife Rhanita of Douglas, Ga.             Layne Keaton and wife Toni of Pearson, Ga.             Larry Keaton of Columbus, Ga.   3 Grandchildren: Kyle Keaton, Joshua Keaton, and Marinda Nunez.   5 Great-Grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.   Funeral Services for Mr. Keaton were held Wednesday, March 08, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the Goodwill Assembly of God Church in Pearson, Ga. with Rev. Edward Mathews and Rev. Bob Powell officiating. Special music included “On Heavens Bright Shore” rendered by Rita Spikes who accompanied herself on the piano, “I’ve Got the Time” by Neal Gillis who accompanied himself on the guitar and “Amazing Grace” presented by the attending congregation with Rita Spikes accompanying on the piano. Soft music for the Prelude and the Postlude was by Rita Spikes, pianist. The interment followed in Satilla Memorial Gardens.   Serving as active pallbearers were: Kevin McGovern, Craig Morris, Lane Purvis, Joey O’Brien, Seth O’Brien and Zane O’Brien. Serving as honorary pallbearers were members of the Columbus Fire Department.   Relihan Funeral Home in Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
