Willis Ray Douglas

Mr. Willis Ray Douglas, age 85 of Pearson, Ga. passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2018 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville, Ga. following a brief illness.   Mr. Douglas was born October 29, 1932 in Pearson, Ga. son of James H. “Jim” and Mary Sirmans Douglas. He was a retired logger and worked at SWMA of Atkinson County. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing and listening to Blue Grass music. He also loved to fix things, such as chain saws, lawn mowers and old cars. He was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Doris Fender Douglas and 5 brothers, Vernie, Clarence, Winston, Harrell, and Roger Douglas.   Survivors include: Son: Ray Douglas and wife Donna of Axson, Ga.   2 Daughters: Wanda Spikes and husband Jimmy of Homerville, Ga.                       Linda Youngblood and husband Sim of Pearson, Ga.   Sister: Lounell Westphal of Ormond Beach, Fl.   5 Grandchildren: Mathew Spikes and wife Nicole, Jason Spikes, Kaleb Youngblood, Natalie Douglas, and Nathan Douglas.   2 Great Grandchildren: Laneston and Carson Hendricks   Several Nieces, Nephews and other relatives also survive.   Funeral services for Mr. Douglas were held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Spikes, Rev. Sim Youngblood, and Rev. J.A. Anderson officiating. Special Musical selections were “That Glad Reunion Day”, “Take My Hand Precious Lord”, and “Lead Me Home” rendered by Sammy Parr who accompanied himself on the guitar. Prelude and postlude music was played by guitarist Sammy Parr. The interment followed in the New Bethel Cemetery with “Amazing Grace” by all attending with Sammy Parr leading.   Serving as active pallbearers were: Matthew Spikes, Jason Spikes, Caleb Youngblood, Nathan Douglas, Laneston Hendricks, Steve Sirmans, and Raymond Purvis.   Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, Ga. was in charge of the arrangements.
